Garaud MacTaggart from the Buffalo News reviewed several concerts from the 2001 June in Buffalo music festival. Titled," A Sonic Mix of Old and New," he begins his review of concert 3 with the following summary: "Wednesday night's June in Buffalo conecrt featured a blend of what Artistic Director, David Felder would call "emerging composers" as well as some who are a bit more established." The concert featured a mix of both student and faculty composers. MacTaggart concludes the review of the concert with the following statements about Gibson's music: "Mara Gibson's "mirar," on the other hand, displayed some of the evening's most intriguing sonic textures, coordinating and balancing the flutes, cello and percussion with Lorena Guillen's soprano vocals."
